The State of Texas allows drivers who have received a moving violation to attend a defensive driving course, sometimes called a driving safety course, to dismiss their citation. Completing a state approved course will result in ticket dismissal as long as arrangements have been made with the court.
If you receive a citation you should contact the court where the ticket was written. The court will instruct you on how to proceed and will provide options. You may choose to pay the citation in full. However, there is normally a reduced fee involved if you choose to attend a defensive driving course. The court may also require you to obtain a Certified Driving Record. The Driving Record is a document indicating past violations and past defensive driving courses.
You will normally have 90 days from your date of permission to turn in your certificate and driving record (if required).
